“Peter came up and said to him, ‘Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.’” – Matthew 18:21–22
Reflection: Peter thought he was being extraordinarily generous by offering to forgive a offender seven times. Jesus corrects him by commanding unlimited, habitual forgiveness that mirrors God’s own endless patience with us. Holding onto resentment isolates us from God’s grace, whereas forgiving others frees our own hearts. Because we have been forgiven an infinite debt by God, we are called to extend that same boundless mercy to others.
