Budget Defended!
The Senate swiftly approved the Php 3.8 billion budget of the Department of Energy for 2026, in what Secretary Sharon S. Garin hailed as the “fastest budget debate for DOE so far.”
Secretary Garin expressed her gratitude to Committee on Finance Chair Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, who championed the allocation, and to the entire energy family for their support.
Key budget priorities include funding for the nuclear energy development program, support for the total electrification project and National Rural Electrification Program to hit President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s 100% household electrification goal. The budget also backs renewable energy development and alternative technologies like electric vehicles, plus energy efficiency measures and infrastructure safeguards.
With the increased 2026 allocation approved, the Department is empowered to drive the country’s energy transition and deliver reliable, affordable, and cleaner energy to all Filipinos.
