“And she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” -Matthew 1:21
Reflection: On the feast of Mary’s birth, the Gospel points forward to the birth of the Savior who breaks the power of sin. Mary was prepared by God from her conception to be the holy vessel through whom divine salvation would enter the world. Her birth signals the dawn of redemption and the fulfillment of centuries of God’s promises to Israel. As we celebrate her birth, we are inspired to offer our own lives as willing instruments for God’s merciful work in the world.
