A STORY OF RESILIENT ECs

Last 2019, PHILRECA conducted its last face to face Annual General Membership Meeting at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City. The successful event was attended by member-electric cooperatives, partners in the government, international organizations, and other stakeholders in the energy industry where they celebrated not only PHILRECA’s 40th anniversary but also the gains and achievements of the electric cooperatives and the whole One EC MCO Movement in pursuit of rural electrification.
But with the start of the pandemic in the latter part of the year and its full effect being felt by the beginning of 2020, the entire EC sector had to make changes — fast.
With increasing cases day by day, the government had declared a State of Public Health Emergency and placed everyone on lockdown and quarantine; and with Filipinos studying and working from home, the demand for electricity skyrocketed but collection efficiency plummeted.
Despite this, ECs have implemented staggered payment scheme for their member-consumer-owners to help ease the burden on the piling bills.
Our Warriors of Light, meter readers, tellers, and all our EC employees have also put their safety –- their lives on the line in the name of service. They had to continuously work to ensure uninterrupted service to their MCOs. On top of this, PHILRECA and the electric cooperatives have implemented several CSR programs and activities such as the first ever Pantawid Liwanag Program which aims to subsidize the electricity bills of those most vulnerable to the pandemic, Community Pantry, among others, to help the MCOs and their community.
With all the restrictions that came with the pandemic, PHILRECA and its member-ECs have learned to adapt to the new challenges. The usual seminars, meetings and other activities face to face have been revamped to webinars and virtual meetings. We are also proud that we were able to successfully hold our Annual General Membership Meetings for the past two years virtually! Still attended by our member-ECs, partners in the government and other stakeholders in the industry, we were able to provide informative technical sessions, showcased the skills and talents of our member-ECs in graphic design, photography, film making, music, and songwriting and recognized ECs who went above and beyond in their service.
With the easing of the restrictions and new normal, we were able to conduct hybrid board meetings, even face to face meeting and now, face to face conduct of 43rd Annual General Membership Meeting. As we move forward in bringing our sector and MCOs to greater heights, we call on your continued support and unity in the years to come.
United We Stand, We Stand United!
